The classic Alocasia ‘Yucatán Princess’ is already known for oversized leaves, bronze-green sheen, and deep-colored petioles. The Aurea Variegated form intensifies all of it—layering chartreuse, lemon, cream, and soft pink-flushed sectors across broad, glossy foliage. The pink appears where aurea variegation overlaps naturally warm anthocyanin tones, giving certain patches a rose-lit effect you won’t see on standard aurea Alocasias.
This coloration comes from a chimeric mutation that reduces chlorophyll in the L2 cell layer, allowing underlying carotenoids and anthocyanins to show through. Because the mutation expresses in large, bold patches rather than flecks, each new leaf forms its own map of gold, green, and blush tones—highly stable, and often intensifying with bright light.
This is a stout, pachycaul Alocasia: thick trunk, large architectural leaves, and a naturally upright, sculptural look. It prefers warmth, space, and consistent moisture—making it an incredible statement plant for collectors who want presence, not just pattern.
