Orius insidiosus in Bottles
Orius insidiosus, or Minute Pirate Bug, is a powerful predatory insect, providing targeted and versatile control of thrips, spider mites, moth eggs, aphids, and other small soft-bodied pests. These small, black-and-white insects, measuring 2–3mm, are known for their agility and ability to feed on pests across multiple life stages. Both adults and nymphs actively hunt pests, making Orius a reliable choice for managing infestations in greenhouses, gardens, and agricultural crops.
Once released, female Orius lay eggs near pest populations. Eggs hatch within 5–7 days into nymphs, which actively hunt pests for about two weeks before maturing into adults. Adults continue predation for another four weeks, completing a total lifespan of approximately seven weeks under optimal conditions. These predators thrive in temperatures between 68–90°F and are highly effective in pollen-rich environments, where they can supplement their diet and sustain activity during periods of low pest pressure.
Visible pest suppression typically begins within a few days of release, as Orius targets thrips and other pests at all life stages, ensuring thorough and sustained control.
