This cross combines Philodendron Florida Beauty, a variegated sport of P. pedatum, with Philodendron mayoi, a species native to Brazil known for its deeply lobed foliage and fast growth. The result is a vigorous climbing hybrid with pronounced lobing, thick petioles, and variable variegation patterns—ranging from subtle marbling to mid-leaf sectoring. Most individuals lean toward Mayoi’s leaf shape but inherit Florida Beauty’s irregular cream coloration.

Unlike stable variegated cultivars, this hybrid’s patterning is not yet genetically fixed. Expression can vary widely across the crop and may shift over time with environmental inputs. Expect new leaves to exhibit a degree of unpredictability—some emerge with splashy cream or pale green patches, while others remain solid green until later maturity. Expression improves under high light, with slight variegation often intensifying over the course of 2–3 leaves.

Leaf texture is semi-glossy, with a rigid central lobe and pronounced sinus development in more mature growth. Petioles are thick and grooved, showing more structural integrity than those of Florida Beauty alone. Internode spacing is relatively short when grown with adequate light, which supports a compact climbing form. With structural support, this plant will size up quickly.

Environmental Requirements & Care

  • Light: Bright, diffuse light (200–400 μmol/m²/s) promotes stronger lobing and higher variegation expression. Under lower light, expect delayed development and a reduction in cream tones.

  • Substrate: Prefers a well-aerated, chunky aroid mix. We use a base of coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark, amended with horticultural charcoal and a small amount of worm castings.

  • Watering: Allow the top 1–2 inches of substrate to dry before watering again. Root rot risk increases in anaerobic conditions, particularly when humidity is high and airflow is poor.

  • Feeding: Fertilize regularly with a balanced (e.g., 3-1-2 or 5-2-3) nutrient profile. Avoid high nitrogen during low light periods to prevent reversion or overly green flushes.

  • Humidity & Temperature: Performs best at 65–85% RH and stable temperatures between 70–85°F (21–29°C). Growth slows below 65°F and is prone to calcium deficiency in cold, wet conditions.

  • Support: Provide a moss pole, stake, or textured surface to encourage climbing and leaf enlargement. Plants without support may remain in juvenile form longer.

  • Pest Resistance: Notably hardy, but like many aroids with lower-chlorophyll sectors, the variegated portions can be more prone to sunburn or fungal leaf spot under stress.

Exact Plant Option (Pictured):
This individual is rooted in a 3.5" pot and shows early lobing, tight internodes, and pale marbling on upper leaves. You’ll receive the plant in the attached images.

Grower’s Choice Option:
Also rooted in a 3.5" pot and selected from the same hybrid batch. Each plant has a developing growth point, visible lobing, and early signs of color variation. All are climbing-ready with well-established roots.
