Golden marbling with a mind of its own.

Philodendron ‘Sunspot’ is a variegated cultivar of Philodendron bipennifolium, best known for its long, lobed leaves and bright, unstable splashes of yellow to chartreuse across deep green foliage. The leaf shape is instantly recognizable—commonly called “horsehead” or “violin”—but the variegation is what makes Sunspot so collectible.

This is a chimeric mutation, meaning no two leaves are the same. Some are lightly marbled, others throw full yellow sectors. In ideal conditions (bright indirect light and stable humidity), the variegation stays bold and vibrant. Like most chimeric variegates, some fluctuation is expected—but Sunspot is known for holding color well over time.

It grows as a climber and sizes up quickly when given vertical support. While the lobes start off short, mature leaves can develop dramatic elongation and better separation—especially when the plant is allowed to climb uninterrupted.

All plants ship rooted in aroid mix, never as unrooted cuttings. Available in three formats:

  • Exact Plant – 4" Pot
The exact plant you see in the photos. Rooted, stable, and actively growing.

  • Grower’s Choice – 4" Pot
A well-established plant from our Sunspot stock. All show visible variegation, though pattern and intensity vary with each leaf.

Shipping Note:
All Philodendron ‘Sunspot’ plants ship rooted in soil and are carefully packed. Due to the variegated tissue and lobed leaf shape, cosmetic damage in transit is possible—this may include minor edge bruising, yellowing, or tearing. These issues do not affect plant health and are not considered damage. Soil may shift in transit and can be gently resettled. Plants ship healthy, pest-free, and ready to grow.
