Aurea marbling and tail-tipped architecture in one unapologetic plant.

Alocasia ‘Stingray Aurea’ is a highly variegated form of Alocasia macrorrhizos ‘Stingray,’ selected for its upright, sculptural growth and bold, lime-to-yellow pigment mutation. Each leaf curves into a winged silhouette with a signature tail-like tip, overlaid with unpredictable swirls, sectors, and split tones in chartreuse, pale yellow, and soft mint.

This variegation is caused by chlorophyll suppression across the L1 and L2 cell layers of the apical meristem, resulting in multicolored tissue that stays photosynthetically active—making it more stable and less prone to reversion than white variegates. With consistent humidity and light, aurea expression intensifies and each new leaf brings its own version of contrast.

The species grows from a central corm and produces strong, vertical petioles. As the plant matures, it will naturally begin to offset—making it ideal for long-term growers looking to both display and divide.

Alocasia ‘Stingray Aurea’ Care Overview

Requirement Details
Light Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun—yellow zones are sensitive.
Humidity 65–85%. High humidity encourages larger, more stable leaves.
Watering In LECA: Maintain water just below root line. In soil: water when top 1–2" is dry.
Substrate LECA by default. For soil, use a loose aroid mix with bark, peat, perlite.
Temperature 65–85°F. Avoid cold drafts and temperature swings.
Feeding In LECA: Use diluted hydroponic nutrients. In soil: fertilize monthly during growth.
Growth Habit Upright. Grows from a corm and will produce offsets over time.
Pests to Watch Spider mites and thrips. Yellow tissue shows stress sooner—monitor regularly.

Shipping Note:
This plant ships bare root in moss unless soil acclimation is requested. Due to the plant’s large size and highly variegated foliage, minor cosmetic blemishes (leaf tip wear, edge crisping, or yellowing) may occur in transit. These are normal for Alocasia with reduced chlorophyll and will not affect the plant’s health or future growth. Your exact plant will arrive clean, well-rooted, and ready to keep growing.
