Back to green. Still royalty.
This plant comes from true Philodendron ‘White Princess’ lineage, but its current foliage has reverted to solid green—meaning its newest leaves are no longer expressing white variegation. The underlying genetics, however, remain intact.
White Princess variegation is the result of periclinal chimerism, a layered genetic mutation in the apical meristem that creates both chlorophyll-rich green tissue and pigment-suppressed white zones. When variegation “reverts,” it typically means the green tissue has gained dominance—but the variegated cell lines are still present. With time, strategic pruning, and high light, variegation can return, although it’s never guaranteed.
Even in its reverted form, this plant retains everything collectors love about White Princess—a self-heading, upright Philodendron with semi-gloss leaves, thick petioles, and a clean, sculptural growth habit. It’s an ideal choice for growers who want a project plant with potential, or simply a well-behaved green philodendron with great form.
Note from the Grower
Some leaf tips show minor burn from growing into a light fixture in the grow tent. The plant has since been moved, and new growth is coming in healthy and unaffected. The damage is cosmetic only and doesn’t impact overall vigor.
