Soft texture. Strong contrast. No apologies.
Scindapsus coreacus is a slow-growing, tropical vining aroid native to Southeast Asia and part of the Araceae family. Known for its matte, velvety leaf surface and compact internodal spacing, this species is structurally distinct from more common Scindapsus pictus forms. The variegated mutation expressed here is chimeric, meaning the color differences occur due to genetically distinct cell layers in the plant’s meristem. This type of mutation is not stable through seed, and each leaf develops its own balance of pigmented and non-pigmented cells—resulting in cream splash, marbling, or full sectoral expression.
The texture is soft and finely pubescent, a trait associated with moisture retention and light diffusion in lowland understory environments. While not fast, this species holds form beautifully and is well-suited to controlled indoor growth. The variegation presents most strongly in bright, indirect light and will fade or revert under low-light conditions.
All plants are fully rooted in aroid potting mix, not water or LECA, and are available in three formats:
-
Exact Plant – 4" Pot
The plant shown. Rooted, stable, and displaying mature variegation across multiple leaves. -
Grower’s Choice – 4" Pot
A well-rooted plant from the same genetic line. All show visible variegation, though distribution and intensity naturally vary due to the unstable chimeric mutation. -
Grower’s Choice – 2.5" Pot
A younger rooted plant with the same genetics. Fewer leaves, smaller size, and more subtle expression at this stage—but still showing tricolor promise.
Scindapsus coreacus (Variegated) Care Overview
Requirement | Details |
---|---|
Light | Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun on pale sections. |
Humidity | 50–80%. High humidity preserves variegation and reduces leaf curl. |
Watering | Let top 1–2" of soil dry before watering. Avoid soggy roots. |
Substrate | Loose aroid mix: peat, perlite, bark, and pumice or charcoal. |
Temperature | 65–85°F. Avoid drafts and drops below 60°F. |
Feeding | Fertilize monthly during active growth. Low-nitrogen blends preferred. |
Growth Habit | Vine. Trails or climbs. Internodes remain compact, making it display-friendly. |
Pests to Watch | Mealybugs and spider mites. Clean leaves regularly and inspect undersides. |
Shipping Note:
All Scindapsus coreacus variegated plants ship rooted in soil and are packed to reduce stress. Due to the fine texture and pale variegation, minor transit wear is possible—including edge browning, curl, or yellowing. These are cosmetic only and do not impact root or plant health. Soil may shift in transit and can be gently resettled.
