Thrips Rapid Response - Two Stage System

At A Glance

When thrips strike, they attack your plants from two fronts: the foliage and the soil. This Thrips Rapid Response bundle is a professional-grade, dual-action solution designed to break the thrip life cycle at every stage. By combining canopy-patrolling predatory mites with soil-dwelling nematodes, this kit provides a comprehensive knockdown of active infestations.

At a Glance

  • Primary Targets: Specialized for Western Flower Thrips, Onion Thrips, and Greenhouse Thrips.

  • The Duo: A synergistic combination of Amblyseius swirskii predatory mites and Steinernema feltiae (Sf) beneficial nematodes.

  • Mechanism: Swirskii consumes thrip larvae on the leaves, while Sf nematodes hunt pupae in the soil.

  • Bundle Tiers:

    • 10 Plant Pack: 1,000 Swirskii | 5M Nematodes

    • 25 Plant Pack: 2,500 Swirskii | 10M Nematodes

    • 50 Plant Pack: 5,000 Swirskii | 25M Nematodes

    • 100 Plant Pack: 10,000 Swirskii | 33M Nematodes

    • 250 Plant Pack: 25,000 Swirskii | 100M Nematodes

Target Pests

To win the war against thrips, you must attack their lifecycle simultaneously:

  • Amblyseius swirskii: These aggressive predatory mites patrol the canopy, feeding on first and second-instar thrip larvae before they can cause significant leaf damage.
  • Sf Nematodes (Steinernema feltiae): These microscopic beneficial organisms are applied to the substrate, where they actively seek out and eliminate thrip pupae waiting to emerge as flying adults.
Environmental Needs

To ensure your "Rapid Response" team performs at peak capacity, maintain these conditions:

  • Temperature: Performs best between 20°C – 30°C (68°F – 86°F).
  • Humidity: Relative humidity of 60% or higher is ideal for mite activity and prevents nematodes from drying out.
  • Substrate: Keep soil or moss consistently moist (not waterlogged) for 2 weeks following nematode application to allow them to travel through the medium.
Selection Guide

Choosing the right IPM strategy depends on the severity of your infestation and where the pests are currently concentrating. While our other bundles provide long-term systemic management or heavy-duty cleanup, Thrips Rapid Response is our tactical "knockdown" solution. It is designed to act fast and stop the adult breeding cycle before it spirals out of control.

How it compares to our other bundles:

  • Vs. Thrips Total Control: Choose Total Control if you are seeing signs in the soil (fungus gnats, thrip larvae) and need a comprehensive system that sanitizes the root zone with Nematodes. Choose Rapid Response if your infestation is localized to the foliage and you need to stop flying adults and egg-laying activity immediately. Rapid Response focuses 100% of its biological power on the canopy to "stop the bleeding."
  • Vs. Thrips Ultimate Control: Choose Ultimate Control if your infestation is "runaway"—meaning you have widespread plant damage, heavy webbing, and high populations in both the soil and canopy. Choose Rapid Response if the damage is still manageable but the adult population on your sticky traps is spiking, and you need to neutralize the breeders before they can populate the rest of the garden.

The Bottom Line:
Thrips Rapid Response is your Surgical Strike. It is the most efficient choice for growers who need to halt an infestation’s momentum now by focusing on the canopy. It is fast, focused, and designed for immediate population reduction.

How to Use

Soil Application (Nematodes): Mix the Sf nematodes with room-temperature water and drench the soil of every plant in your collection.

Canopy Application (Mites): Gently sprinkle the Swirskii mites directly onto the foliage or into release boxes near the most affected areas.

Pesticide Buffer: Ensure a sufficient "buffer period" after any chemical applications before releasing your biocontrols.

How They're Shipped
  • Release IMMEDIATELY: Swirskii have a very high metabolism and will begin to starve if left in the bottle. Release them the same day they arrive.
  • Storage: If you must wait, keep the bottle horizontal in a cool, dark place (55F to 60F). Do not refrigerate.
  • The "Invisible Army" Note: These mites are pear-shaped and nearly microscopic (0.5mm). They are tan to pale-orange and move very quickly.

FAQ

What is your Live Delivery Guarantee?

We guarantee that your beneficial insects will arrive healthy and ready to work. Because we are shipping live organisms, we use packaging and expedited shipping to ensure their safety. In the rare event that your order is compromised during transit, please take a photo of the package and contact us within 24 hours of delivery so we can make it right.

Why do I need two different predators?

Thrips spend part of their life on the leaves and part in the soil. Using only one predator allows the other half of the population to survive and re-infest your plants.

How quickly will I see results?

You should see a reduction in active thrip movement within 7–10 days.

Are these safe for my pets?

Yes. Both Swirskii and Sf nematodes are 100% non-toxic and harmless to humans and domestic animals.

Can I use this as a preventative?

While optimized for active infestations, it is an excellent quarterly "deep clean" for high-value collections.

Do I need to repeat the treatment?

For heavy infestations, we recommend a second application 14 days later to catch any thrips that were in the egg stage during the first release.

How do I store them?

Release immediately upon arrival. If a delay is necessary, store in a cool, dark place (10°C / 50°F) for no more than 48 hours.

Help! I'm overwhelmed

Yeah, it's a lot the first time you're using predatory mites. Please email us at info@fgmnnursery.com and we'll be happy to help!

I don’t see anything moving in my bottle or sachet. Does that mean they’re dead?

Not at all! In fact, go ahead and deploy them.

Predatory mites are microscopic (often less than 0.5mm) and naturally blend into their carrier medium (bran or vermiculite).

  • For Bottles: The mites often huddle in the center of the bottle for insulation during transit.
  • For Sachets: These are "slow-release" nurseries. The mites stay tucked deep inside the breeding media and emerge one by one over 2–4 weeks. Seeing an "empty-looking" sachet or bottle is not proof of a loss; it is simply how they are packaged for maximum survival.
