First, make sure a sachet is what you want
Sachets are prevention, not treatment. Mites breed inside the sachet and trickle out over three to five weeks, keeping numbers down before a problem starts. They are deliberately slow.
If you already have webbing, stippling or visible damage, a sachet will not save the plant. You need loose mites from a bottle for that — start with Persimilis or the Spider Mite Rapid Response, then hang sachets afterwards to hold the line.
In the meantime — prevention sachets that do the same job
No single sachet we sell does exactly what this one did. Andersoni's advantage was the temperature range — it kept working in a cool room where most predators slow down. Here's what covers the same pests, with the trade-offs named.
Neoseiulus Californicus Slow-Release Prevention Sachets — not nearly so finicky
Happy to hang in just about any room you put them in, as long as there's a spider mite to head off.
Spider mites, broad mites and cyclamen mites, and the best tolerance for dry air of anything we carry.
Where they differ from Andersoni: thrips aren't their thing. Pair with cucumeris if thrips are also on the list.

Amblydromalus limonicus Slow-Release Prevention Sachets — for a cool, less humid room
Stays active in a cooler house, which is the part of Andersoni people miss most.
They're after thrips and whitefly rather than spider mites — a substitute for the climate, not for the pest list.
Amblyseius Swirskii Slow-Release Prevention Sachets — for a warm, humid room
Thrips larvae and whitefly eggs, at their best above 68°F with decent humidity. The opposite end of the range from limonicus.
Everything else about sachets is unchanged
Same hanging rules, same replacement rhythm: near foliage, above the watering line, don't open them, and swap every three to five weeks while the season is active. The sachet guide still applies to all of the above.

Open the box right away
Bring the package indoors as soon as it arrives. Don't leave it on a hot porch, in a cold mailbox, or in direct sun. If you can't deploy immediately, set the sachets somewhere room-temperature (60–75°F) and out of direct light — they'll keep for a day or two.

Don't open the sachet
Each sachet is a self-contained breeding colony. The mites and their food source live inside; they emerge gradually through a small exit hole on the breathable face. Cutting the sachet open ends the slow release and dumps the colony all at once. Keep them sealed.

Hang or place near the plant
Hook each sachet on a sturdy branch, hang from a stake, or set near the base of the plant — out of direct sun and away from anywhere it'll get watered. Mites travel from the sachet onto the plant on their own. One sachet protects roughly 2–3 feet of canopy; see the product description for exact spacing.

Leave them alone for 4–6 weeks
Predator emergence ramps up over the first two weeks, peaks around weeks three to four, and tapers off through week six. You won't see the predators (they're smaller than a grain of salt), and an "empty-looking" sachet at week one means nothing. The real signal is what isn't happening — pests not establishing on protected plants.

I don’t see anything moving in my bottle or sachet. Does that mean they’re dead?
Not at all! In fact, go ahead and deploy them.
Predatory mites are microscopic (often less than 0.5mm) and naturally blend into their carrier medium (bran or vermiculite).
- For Bottles: The mites often huddle in the center of the bottle for insulation during transit.
- For Sachets: These are "slow-release" nurseries. The mites stay tucked deep inside the breeding media and emerge one by one over 2–4 weeks. Seeing an "empty-looking" sachet or bottle is not proof of a loss; it is simply how they are packaged for maximum survival.
Mite Matters
Thrips Have Six Stages. Cucumeris Reaches One.
A thrips passes through six life stages and cucumeris can kill one of them. Second instars do not just survive the attack — they fight it off, and they destroy the predator's eggs on the way past. That single fact explains the lag, the reservoir, and most of the disappointment.
