Am I light, moderate or heavy?
Light
- You had to look closely — a few silver flecks on one or two leaves.
- Nothing flies up when you brush the canopy.
- Blue cards catch the odd one rather than a stream.
- One plant, maybe two. The rest of the shelf is fine.
Moderate
- You notice the silvering walking past, on several plants.
- A few adults lift off when you disturb the foliage.
- Blue card counts are climbing week to week.
- New leaves are opening already marked.
Heavy
- Whole leaves gone silver, and flowers coming out streaked and distorted.
- Adults lift off in numbers whenever you touch a plant.
- Blue cards fill between checks.
- It has reached plants that were never near the first one.
Sizing up costs you very little here. Swirskii hold on pollen once the thrips are gone, so extra mites stay on the plant rather than going to waste, and the nematodes are spent either way. Sizing down costs you the round, because both halves work on ratio — and because every pot in the space needs the drench, not just the ones with damage on them.
Thrips are built to be underestimated:
- Half the population is not on the plant. Pupae sit in the substrate where nothing you spray can reach them, which is why a treatment that looked thorough keeps failing.
- Damage is a record, not a reading. Silver scarring stays on the leaf long after every thrips that made it is dead.
- They feed where you cannot see. Larvae work inside folded new growth and under leaves. By the time the top of the leaf looks wrong, they have been there a while.
- Adults fly. A plant across the room is not out of range, which is why the drench goes on every pot rather than the obvious ones.
Why more than one round?
Putting it out
- Nematodes into the fridge, mites onto the counter. Do this the moment the box is open. The mites stay at room temperature and go out today; refrigerating them is the one mistake that ends the canopy half before it starts.
- Sprinkle the swirskii across the canopy, concentrating on new growth and leaf undersides, where first-instar larvae feed. Several small drops on a dense plant rather than one central pile.
- Mix the nematodes with room-temperature dechlorinated water. Chlorine kills them before they reach the soil, so let tap water stand or treat it first.
- Drench every pot, the same day, with the substrate already moist — then water again afterwards so they are carried down into the root zone.
- Keep the substrate moist for two weeks. Not waterlogged. Dry media kills nematodes faster than anything else you could do to them.
- No sprays across either half. Oils and soaps kill the mites, and sulfur ends everything. Allow a day after insecticidal soap; a synthetic pesticide is weeks rather than days.
Everything else is optional. Get these four and the release has done what it can.
A cleaner way
On a display plant, tip small piles into bio-boxes or paper cups hung in the branches instead of dusting the foliage. Same dose, nothing visible on the leaf.
The failure is forgetting. Very few programs fail because the mite underperformed. They fail in week five, when the plants look fine, the reorder does not happen, and the population holding the line ages out with nothing behind it.
A schedule is the same decision, made once. A kit when it looks bad, then another when it looks bad again, is already a rhythm — just one you have to remember at the exact moment the plants look fine.

Is this your pest?
Rapid Response is built around one fact about thrips: they live in two places at once. Larvae feed on the leaves; pupae sit in the soil. Treat one and the other half of the population survives and re-infests.
Thrips rasp the leaf surface and drink what comes out, leaving silvery or bronzed scarring with black frass specks on it, usually worst on the newest tissue and inside folded growth. Flowers come out streaked and distorted. The adults are slim and quick and fly up when you disturb the plant.
This kit covers Western flower thrips, onion thrips and greenhouse thrips, at the two stages it reaches: Amblyseius swirskii takes first-instar larvae on the foliage, and Steinernema feltiae nematodes take the pupae in the substrate. Neither agent kills adult thrips — if the flying adults are the problem, Thrips Total Control adds Orius insidiosus, which does.
Then: is Rapid Response the right answer to it?
Choose this if
Choose it when thrips are active at manageable levels and the larvae and pupae are what you need to reach. Closing both halves of the cycle in one day is what gets this somewhere a single agent stalls — and it does it with less work than a spray programme: there is nothing to mix beyond a watering can, no residue on the leaves, no re-entry interval and nothing to keep children or pets away from. The mites walk the leaf undersides and folded new growth that a spray would never wet, and the nematodes reach a life stage no foliar treatment can touch at all. Thrips cannot develop resistance to either one.
Choose something else if
Neither agent kills adult thrips, so the ones flying now will live out their lives while you kill the generation behind them — if that is the problem, Total Control is the kit that adds Orius. A runaway infestation with widespread damage in both soil and canopy wants Ultimate Control instead. And it is the wrong kit for Echinothrips, the dark, sluggish thrips that stays on the leaf blade rather than the flowers: it pupates on the leaf instead of dropping into the substrate, so the nematode half has no pupal stage to attack.
What it kills, and what it won't
Worth being plain about the adults, because it changes what you expect to see. Swirskii takes the first larval stage, second instars are large enough to fight it off, and adults are out of reach entirely. So the flying thrips you can see today will keep appearing for a while — what this kit is doing is emptying the generation behind them. If the adults themselves are the problem, Total Control is the kit that adds Orius.

Two habitats, closed the same day
Swirskii go onto the foliage and eat first-instar larvae before they have done much damage. Sf nematodes go into the substrate and kill the pupae waiting to emerge as next week's adults. Both halves go in on the same day on purpose — a week between them lets a generation through.
They reach what a spray cannot
Mites walk. They get onto leaf undersides and into folded new growth where thrips larvae actually feed and where spray coverage is always worst. The nematodes go somewhere no foliar product reaches at all: into the media, after a life stage that is otherwise simply waiting out your treatment.
You read it on the cards and the crown
You will not watch either agent work. Judge it the way a grower does — blue sticky card counts flattening, and new leaves opening clean — rather than by trying to find a mite. Existing silver scarring never goes away; it is a record, not a reading.
Book the second round now. For a real infestation, a repeat at fourteen days is the normal course, not a sign the first failed — thrips generations overlap, and eggs laid before you started are still hatching.
Will it work in your room?

How you'll know it's working
New growth coming in unmarked, and blue sticky card counts flattening out. Those two together are the reading; neither one alone is.
Adults will keep turning up for a while after you start, and that is expected rather than a failure — they hatched before the release and are outside what these two agents reach. What should change is the rate of new damage on new tissue.
Run blue cards from day one. They are the only honest count you have with thrips, and they are also how you find out whether you need Orius on top — if card numbers stay flat while new damage stops, the adults are the piece this kit does not cover.

Two things: a bottle of loose swirskii in a vermiculite carrier, and a pack of live Sf nematodes.
Nematodes into the fridge the moment you open the box. The mites stay at room temperature and go out today — putting them in the fridge is the mistake this note exists to prevent.
Both halves the same day. The point of the pair is closing the cycle; a week between them lets a generation through.
When it ships, and when it lands
Shipping
We ship when they're ready to travel. Live orders go out Monday to Thursday. If a colony needs a beat to peak, or we're propagating a fresh batch, yours might hold up to a week. All mites and insects ship 2-day or Overnight depending on what's best for them.
When it lands
Open it the day it lands. Sprinkle the swirskii across the canopy, concentrating on new growth where first-instar larvae feed. Then mix the nematodes with room-temperature dechlorinated water — chlorine kills them before they reach the soil — and drench every pot, moist beforehand, then water again afterwards so they reach the root zone.
About the ones that don't make it
Some of them die on the way. That is why we send more than you paid for.
A predatory mite is the size of a grain of table salt. It ships in a bottle, in a van, for two days.
Roughly 15% will not survive that. We cannot prevent it, so we price it in: the number on the label gets counted out, and then the cushion goes in on top of it.
Your 1,000-mite bottle leaves here holding more than 1,000. The dead ones are already paid for.
If you can see them
Ladybugs, lacewing larvae, Orius — the minute pirate bug — and the beetles. Tip a few onto white paper and give them twenty minutes at room temperature before you judge anybody.
Cold insects are genuinely good at playing dead. The deceased have been known to get up and walk off the counter.

The photo is not us doubting you. It is how we tell a bad batch from a bad courier day from a mailbox that hit 104°F.
If you can't see them
Mites, nematodes, eggs — and this kit is two of the three. A bottle of carrier looks the same whether it holds live mites or none, and a nematode pack tells you nothing at all from the outside. No photograph settles either, so we don't ask you to take one.
You file the report and our entomologist takes you through the diagnostic instead — the tap test on dark paper, where the box sat, what your room was doing, and then what the pest is doing about ten days later.
There is one check worth doing on the mites: tip a pinch of carrier onto dark paper, give it twenty minutes at room temperature, and look for movement against the grain. It is not proof, but it is more than a photograph would be.

Thrips Total Control
This kit reaches larvae and pupae, which is where next month's thrips come from. What it does not reach is the adult flying, feeding and laying eggs right now. Total Control is the same idea with Orius insidiosus added — the only agent in our range that takes adult thrips. If your blue cards keep filling while new damage slows, that is the piece you are missing.
Thrips Ultimate Control
Widespread damage and high numbers in both the soil and the canopy is a different job. Ultimate Control upgrades the foliage mite to Amblydromalus limonicus, swaps the soil nematodes for Dalotia rove beetles, and keeps Orius on the adults. Rapid Response is the surgical strike; that one is the cleanup.
Swirskii slow-release sachets
The swirskii in this kit are loose adults, released all at once. Sachets hang the same species on the plant as a breeding colony, trickling out for four to six weeks — which is what stops the next outbreak starting on the plants you just cleared. Hang them five to seven days after the knockdown.
Two cheap things that make the rest work harder. Blue cards give you the dated count this page keeps asking you to read. Breeder's Blend is pollen and Artemia; it keeps the population fed through the lull when prey gets scarce.
Questions
Why do I need two different predators?
Thrips spend part of their life on the leaves and part in the soil. Using only one predator allows the other half of the population to survive and re-infest your plants.
How quickly will I see results?
What you are watching for is fewer active thrips — how long that takes depends on how heavy the infestation is.
Are these safe for my pets?
Yes. Both Swirskii and Sf nematodes are 100% non-toxic and harmless to humans and domestic animals.
Can I use this as a preventative?
While optimized for active infestations, it is an excellent quarterly "deep clean" for high-value collections.
Do I need to repeat the treatment?
For heavy infestations, we recommend a second application 14 days later to catch any thrips that were in the egg stage during the first release.
How do I store them?
Release immediately upon arrival. If a delay is necessary, store in a cool, dark place (50°F) for no more than 48 hours.
